- Admin History: Edward Lisle of the Star Cycle Company turned his attention to the production of motor cars in 1899. The original name of the company was Star Cycle Company Ltd but this was changed in 1909 to Star Engineering Company Ltd. By 1914 the company was the sixth largest vehicle manufacturer in the UK and justifiably described itself as famous on its advertising material. Originally based in Stewart Street and Frederick Street, new works were built at Showell Street, Bushbury in 1929 (at this point the Frederick Street works closed). Around 1930 Guy Motors took over control of the company which had run into financial difficulties. In 1932 the company went into liquidation.
